Announcements
In recent weeks the OARC FM Digital net has been operating several modes that may be of interest.
We have used SSTV some, but also tried MFSK, 8PSK, RTTY, Feld Hell and most recently PSK63. On Janurary 19 after trying unsuccessfully with SSTV (we think due to weather condx) we switched to PSK63 and had 95% successful QSO.
If you have not joined us yet, please do. We are debating changing days, times or adding a different net schedule more convenient to working guys. Let us know. n9ysq@yahoo.com
The Owensboro Amateur Radio Club, Inc. is a non-profit corporation in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and based in Owensboro. The club was first organized in 1953.
Our mission is to provide a medium for training amateur radio operators, examining applicants who may wish to become licensed amateur radio operators, exchanging ideas and providing study designed to increase the members’ knowledge and expertise in this highly technical field, and assisting governmental agencies and non-profit organizations by providing assistance and emergency communications in an efficient manner.
There are many facets to Amateur Radio, from simply having radio communications while camping to satellite & digital communications with people around the world.
If you have an interest in basic communications with friends and family while camping, hiking, boating or hunting you may want to consider becoming a Licensed Amateur Radio Operator.
For basic communication, Handheld or HT Radios work much better than the typical walkie talkies you find at the big box stores. While the store “walkie talkies” advertise long ranges those advertisements are very misleading. You will be lucky to get 1/2 mile range with those types of radios.
With Amateur HT radios you can expect several miles of good communication depending on the terrain.
Its easy to get started, just follow our Getting started checklist.
